A bit of vacation in the vain

Day #1 Vacation

I vow to watch lotsa cheesy movie this vacation. So day #1, I hit the stack of DVD I bought solely for that purpose.

I watched 3 movies this day. First one was I Hate Valentine’s Day (2009), second is I Could Never Be your Woman (2007) and the last but not least  The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 (2008)

And at 10.36 PM, my eyes are puffy due to ever so silly crying and  there’s an urge to write about something.  Something, but I dunno what. Don’t you just hate it when you want to write and don’t know what to write about? Well, this is one of those.

I know that I could write movies reviews for the 3 films I’ve watched, but what can you write about these movies? Boy meet girls-fell in love-got into a bit of rocky road-but eventually lived happy ever after in a land far away…  nay, I’ve written those kind of reviews before. I want something different.

And wanting to write something different means something like this…..

Women And Their Endless Guy Problems.

As I my eyes glued to the screen watching 3 sappy movies in a row, I thought about how similar the 3 movies depict a woman --although they are made in 3 different years.

Nia Vardalos in I Hate Valentine’s Day plays Genevieve, a woman who believes a girl is happy to be single with array of casual dating. But Nia has to eat her hat when prince charming swept her off her feet.

Michelle Pfeiffer in I Could Never Be Your Woman plays Rosie, a 40 year-old woman who fell in love with a 29 year-old guy. Michelle feels that the relationship is not right but had to admit that she was wrong because love –as the saying goes—is blind and you can not pick whom you fell in love with.

America Ferrera, Alexis Bledel, and Amber Tamblyn in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants2, all played a character confused about love. What is love, who could fall in love, and how does love fells like. And the answers dawn to them in a form of a six-packed, tall, dark haired guy. J (I wish all my problems are answered in that form. hehehe)

The 3 movies made a point of showing a woman who is doing pretty well in their life (Nia is a happy gal that owns a flower shop, Michelle is a script writer in a series and all the girls ini The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 are in their first year at their chosen university.)  But the Pandora box opens when the met the guys. They lost it! And they are back to their own self when the ever so charming guys came to their life and pledging their love to them. Nice J

In these 3 movies, women are described as a dependent creature who is well off being themselves. But when the X factor –men, noted : adorable men, came strolling along they find themselves fluttered and lost. These men are not doing anything to or for them (not like how Cinderella became happy, rich, and not to mention a queen when she found her prince charming). The men in these movies didn’t came out to be the major part of the women’s life, but is a part of a small portion in the life of a women  with a main function is to keep a women happy –and sane, I guess--.  

I –as an avid chick flick/hallmark movie watcher—found this a bit amusing because this was how men used to be portrayed in the good old days. Why is it changing? I dunno… I just found that it’s amazing that I have the chance to witness it, though.

And to end this long twisted writing, I just wanna say.. I miss writing about stuff like this.. J
